The Body/Master, We Perish/At A Loss Recordings/2013 CD Review

  The  Body  are  a  band  from  Providence,  Rhode  Island  that h as  been  featured  before  in t his  zine  with  a  musical  style  on  the  new  recording  that  I  would  describe  as  being  a  mixture  of  noise,  sludge,  drone  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Master,  We  Perish"  which  was  released  by  At  A  Loss  Recordings.

  Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  drumming  with  no  fast  playing  or  blast  beats  being  present on  this  recording,  while  the  sound  effects  bring  elements  of  drone  and  noise  to  the  recording,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  sludge,  drone  and  doom  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  along  with  a  good  amount  of  heavy  sounding  distortion  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  as  well  as  some  soft  and  clean  playing.

  Vocals  range  from  high  pitched  sludge  screams,  spoken  word  parts  and  operatic  female  vocals,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressing  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  with  the  last  song  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  Body  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Worship".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.



  

Decrepitaph/Humiliation/The Carnal Slumber/Enemy's Perimeter/EldritchLunar Miasma/Dybukk/2013 Split 7 InCh Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  7  inch  between  California's  Decrepitaph  and  Malaysia's  Humiliation  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  Eldritch  Lunar  Miasma  and  Dybukk  and  we  will  start  off  the  review with  Decrepitaph  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  I  would  describe  as  being  ancient  doom/death  metal.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  old  school death  metal  with  doom  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

  Vocals  are  all  deep  death  metal  growls,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  horror  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy,  dark  and  old  school  sound  to  it  that  goes  back  to  the  early  90's.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  song  from  Decrepitaph  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you should  check  out  their  side  of  the  recording.  RECOMMENDED.

  Next  up  is  Humiliation  a  band  that  plays  a  very  old  school  form  of  death  metal.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  death  metal  riffs  that  are  very  heavy  and  old  school  sounding  in  the  early  90's  tradition  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording.

  Vocals  are  all  deep  death  metal  growls,  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful, heavy  and  dark  sound  in  the  old  school  death  metal  tradition.

  In  my  opinion  Humiliation  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  music.  RECOMMENDED.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  doom/death  and  old  school  death  metal.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.    

I Klatus/Kether/Horse Drawn Productions/2013 CD Review

  I  Klatus  are  a  band  from  Chicago,  Illinois  that  plays  a  mixture  style  that  the  band  describes  as  being  beyondcore,  sludge,  and  shamanistic  method  doom  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Kether"  which  was  released  by  Horse Drawn  Productions.

  Drums  are  all  slow  to  mid  paced  playing  with  no  fast  drumming  or  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  as  for  the  sound  effects  when  they  are  utilized  they  bring  a  very  psychedelic  sound  to  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  are  all  slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  sludge,  grime  and  doom  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  along  with  a  great  amount  of  heavy  distortion  being  thrown  into  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  are  noise/punk/doom  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords to  add  some  progressive  elements  to  the  recording.

  Vocals  range  from  sludge  style  shouts  and  screams,  deep  growls  and  spoken  word  samples  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  clean  singing  with  the  last  song  using  female  vocals,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Metaphysical,  Occult,  Cabala,  Sumerian  and  Dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  dark,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  I  Klatus  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  sludge,  grime  and  doom  metal  and  if you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "John  Of  The  Network"  "Portals(Under  The  Lake)"  "By  The  Coercion  Of  Marduk"  and  "Dark  Commitment  To  The  Ceaseless  NON".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Agrimonia/Rites Of Separation/Southern Lord/2013 CD Review

  Agrimonia  are  a  band  from  Sweden  which  contains  veterans  of  the  scene  with  a  musical  style  that  combines  sludge,  crust  and  post  metal  together  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Rites  Of  Separation"  which  was  released  by  Southern  Lord.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  only  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  as  for  the  synths  when  they  are  utilized  they  bring  a  very  dark  sound  to  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  sludge,  crust  and  post  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  along  with  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  as  well  as  some  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full chords  to  add  more  post  rock  elements  to  the  recording.

The Canyon Observer/Chapter II: These Binds Will Set You Free/KAPA Records 2012 EP Review

 The  Canyon  Observer  are  a  band  from  Slovenia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge,  doom  and  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  ep  "Chapter  II:  These  Binds  Will  Set  You  Free"  which  was  released  by  KAPA  Records.

  Drums  are  all  slow  playing  with  no  fast  drumming  or  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Rhythm  guitars  are  all  slow  riffs  that  combine  sludge,  doom  and  post  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  along  with  a  great  amount  of  heavy  distortion  as  well  as  some  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  metal  guitar  leads  that  do  not  really  turn  into  solos.

  In  my  opinion  The  Canyon  Observer  are  a  very  great  sounding  heavy  hybrid  of  sludge,  doom  and  post  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "As  We  Surrender  To  Lust"  and  "We  Can  Descend  Into  The  Unknown".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Eastfrisian Terror Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
   Hello, we're „Eastfrisian Terror“. We came together after being active in several other bands before such as „Meatknife“, „Tears Of Decay“, „Left Hand Path“, „Truth Of Blood“, „Bugen Hagen“ and „Necrobiosis“. Our aim is to unleash a brutal sound by combining the musical skills we're able to play but in a different way of image compared to other bands of this genre.
2. How would you describe your musical sound?
   We have influences of old-school Death-Grind, groovy parts plus catchy riffs and a touch of Doom. It's a raw sound but you're able to hear single tones instead of only a wall of noise.
   
   
3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
   We're dealing with typical eastfrisian topics which are mostly even unknown in other areas of Germany – for example „Klaasohm“ which is an old tradition on the island „Borkum“ to remember times where men came back home after months of fishing in the Northern Sea. These men reinstalled „law and order“ after their wifes have had the might during their absence. This ritual is really interesting and you can see some videos about it on youtube, too.
4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the band's name?
   Well the meaning is an unleashed terror of brutal music coming from Eastfrisia – a silent place to live in. The inspiration was to create a sound which isn't in the old tradition of Eastfrisia like Shanty Choirs for example. But we like our home area very much and identify totally with Eastfrisia, drinking tea etc. but not in that stupid way Germans were known for about 70 years ago!
   
   
5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
   The first shows with Eastfrisian Terror will take place in March. But of course we're experienced live musicians due to our activities in the former bands mentioned above. Our stage performance is maybe looking like we're people you don't want to have as brother in law. We don't try to be the most evil persons under Satan's moon but we're sick by just being what we are without needing any pyro effects or whatever.
   
   
6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
   We start with single gigs and try to play as often as possible on Open Air shows, too. Touring depends on holidays of our employed ones and a label and/or management which wants us to support an album live. If our songwriting success continues and our name grows further on touring might be possible in the future.
   
   
7. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label and if so what kind of label do you feel that would be a perfect fit for the music?
   Yes, a label is definitely necessary to be able to concentrate on the main things such as song-writing, rehearsing, performing live and recordings. We want a label which will give us this opportunity. This label should be into the music and not only into the business. FDA Rekotz would be nice but of course we're open minded for other labels, too. But you'll have to keep in mind that a small label has the advantage that you're an important band for it but on the other hand the financial possibilities are limited and vice versa at a big label the financial possibilities are better (for their bigger bands) but you're only a number under a lot of bands.
   
   
8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme Metal?
   So far we have had only good up to enthusiastic reactions. There aren't any „dislikes“ on youtube or facebook and the worst review by a magazine was 7 of maximum 10 points. We're very satisfied with that and want to say thank you very much to all our fans, magazines and people who believe in our music.
   
   
9. What is going on with other musical projects these days?
   Grindopa Alli and me are also active in the Death Metal band „Blixxem“ and Möwenshitter is also playing the drums for the legendary band „Anasarca“. Mr. Deichkot is very busy with his radioshow „Radio Mähdrescher“ and organizing gigs and the wellknown „Earterror“-festival which takes place in early November every year.
   
   
10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
    We'll do what we like. All in all you can expect a similar style like featured on our EP. The new songs include some more technical parts but we'll stay what we are. We won't be the Death-Grind answer to Dream Theater.
    
    
11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
    Uwe: For me it's a bit different what I'm listening to and what I like to play but the reason why I started to play my guitar about 20 years ago where bands such as „Kreator“, „Sodom“, „Slayer“ and „Sepultura“. On the other hand these bands haven't had any influence to the music in my first band „Necrobiosis“ which was a melodic Black/Death Metal band. Nowadays I still listen to the same music like in the past. I like „Iron Maiden“, too and even classical music such as „Bach“, „Beethoven“ etc.
    
    
    Michael: I`m a fan of all brutal stuff. Death, Grind.Thrash. I listen to this shit since 20 years. At the moment, my favorite bands are Benighted, Cryptopsy, Origin, Napalm Death and many more.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
    Uwe: I like playing chess and pool billiard and I like movies without happy end. And I like silence and eating very much (it makes the soul happy). Other things I'm enjoying are censored :-)

Michael: I have a daughter, 10 years old and make fitness.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Buckshot Facelift Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Vomit Raider: We have all quit our jobs and live in the woods behind the train tracks on Oakwood Road in Huntington Station and share clothes. Fergus (drums) and I give each other haircuts with a buzzer hooked up to a car battery that we stole. We do not drink or do drugs, my sons Mother is just telling people we do. Besides that, we are promoting our new album, “Elders Rasp” on 11” vinyl and playing lots of shows. Paulo from Copremesis recorded the album with us but then he got scared of all the raccoons and left so we found these two new guitarists. They’re working out good but they fucking hate Paulo.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?

Vomit Raider : It’s like drinking too much and smoking too many cigarettes and waking up on a sidewalk at the Ronkonkoma train station feeling sad. Then you find a mixtape labeled “Long Island Hardcore 1996”, but someone taped over most of it with Amon Amarth, Gorgoroth and Excruciating Terror.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new release explores?

Vomit Raider: Drug addict friends who fucked us over, drinking, ex-girlfriends, drinking alone, dead friends, solitude, sex, drinking with comrades, Aztec mythology, sluts, people in jail and people who are headed there.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Vomit Raider: Sometimes people visualize their own suicide over and over again as a defense mechanism against facing truths or emotional pain.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Vomit Raider: We will always be proud to have opened for Squash Bowels, one of our main inspirations in the first place, but it was very long ago and I doubt we made a professional impression on them. Besides that, any show with our great friend, Lee Altomare of The Communion – Rest In Peace Brother! Every show can be a good show – just stay on top of the details and don’t leave it up to anyone else to promote or organize! DIY! We don’t like having stage presence, we’d rather play on the floor and be right in everyone’s faces.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Vomit Raider: FUCK YES. And new shirts.

7. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label and if so what kind of label do you feel that would be a perfect for the music?

Vomit Raider: We are proud to do everything DIY and be an underground band, but if any label wants to help us get our money right, step our merch game up and get us on some of these big, exclusive Metalfests and touring shows than come fuck with your boi bois. In case you haven’t noticed, Buckshot Facelift has a hard-on that is not going away any time soon.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the new album by fans of underground music?

Vomit Raider: Big shout out to The Phillipines, Germany, England, France and Belgium where they all got those “Elders Rasp” 11”s early and hard! We have enjoyed the support of fans in the Ukraine and Australia in the past and look forward to getting our music to all the far off corners of this soiled planet. Buckshot Facelift recognizes that GRINDCORE is an international culture.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

Vomit Raider: More vinyl, and weirder. Expect haircuts, track suits and liquor in the studio.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Vomit Raider: From day one we have always rocked oldschool Long Island hardcore shit like Halfman, Scapegrace, Milhouse, Neglect, 52x, Motive, etc. and tried to mix it with grindcore. metal and powerviolence. We listen to lots of different shit… Iniquity, Enslaved, Dead Infection, Extreme Noise Terror, Lotus Fucker, Waco Jesus, Cryptopsy, Tragedy, Wu Tang Clan, MF DOOM,   Lisa Hannigan, Sufferatory, 6 Brew Bantha, Backslider, Butthole Surfers, Dinosaur Jr., Ratt, Sun Ra, Frankie Valli, Tony Bennet, Carcass, Internal Suffering, Andromorphous Rexalia, Charles Mingus Motorhead, Tori Amos, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte. All sorts of music is good to listen to, but only loud music is good to live by.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Vomit Raider: After rehearsal a few months ago, I slept on Fergus’ couch. The next day, at 10 AM on a rainy Wednesday morning, we watched “Pet Cemetary” in his basement drinking tequila and got really depressed together.  I also drink alone sometimes.
