Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Hi, at the moment we had the release of the CD and some gig with the new drummer, it was nice, we have been travelling through italy.

2.In April you had released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
It’ s completely different, the past was actually much more spacy and trippy, this new work it s much more straight and noisy then the work before, it s something much more instinctive and less intimate, i believe this was a huge change. The music is still deeply connected to the sound, i mean there is a deep study in creating the chaos we wanna accomplish. So there is a little of order and investigation in the chaos! we've tried to accomplish this result by not adding new gear, actually we’ve simplified a little the rig so we can be more direct and not overthink too much. Sometimes limits are good things!

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored over the years with your music?
The old works were much more about the innerself, the music was much more evocative and spiritual in a kind of way, the lyrics were connected to the music in a way and they were all about the knowledge of the one self, in the Sgretolamento the whole work was inspired by the i ching, The oracle.
In QESC the main focus is the protest, it s music against the consumerism, fascism, omofobia, razism, our government and the new politics against refugees, climate emergency and more.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Haram'?
Haram it s an arabic word, The meaning is literally an action against god Will.
It s a name that we love.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover
The art work it s by Alessio Marchetti, the lead singer of tutti i colori del buio, The love supreme , it s a great guy who did always support the scene, it s a great friend and we like the way he does things.
it s the mix of 2 different images, The first it’s a commercial from the 80s and the second it s the scene of an explosion. The faces on the art cover they express a huge amount of violence and we loved it at first sight

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We have a huge amount of sounds and noise, I do not recall the best performance, because it’s not our goal to be perfect musician and please the audience. But probably in the last tour, the last date was the best because we’ve improved our interplay during the tour and because playing at Banhnof is always a pleasure with a lot of friends and alcohol
Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We Will be around the whole mounth of october in italy playing gigs all around.

8.In 2017 you where a part of a split with 'La Deriva', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording? /////
That band it s over and we just keep the contact with Luca, The guitar player, He s a local sound guy. We were quite different bands, but we were friends and we wanted to do something together

9.The album was released through a variety of many different labels, can you tell us a little bit more about the labels you have worked with on the new recording?
Well basically all the labels are friends, there some people who did appreciate our work over the years and that did support us so much, and many of them they “own” labels and the did help us out with the release but mainly we wanted them to be part of this, because music it s about sharing and be together. Always.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your recordings by fans of underground music?
Well we do not have this kind of approach, i mean we do not know what a worldwide level is…. We live here and now and we play what we love.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Well haram has and will always be freestereotypes kind of band, so i do not know, i am sure that we will keep going, going nowhere… As we always did.
We will experiment and try new solutions and find new ways to express ourselves through sounds, that s where we are heading. Our music listening change pretty quickly so we’ve abandoned the idea to be the band with the same sound on every album. We’ve different textures even in the same album but for us it’s not a problem

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Our new drummer Utku Tavil is a great source of new underground extreme music. He lives half a year in Berlin and coordinates some experimental music festivals so he’s in contact with many interesting bands and project. We like most of all bands like Moe, No Balls, White Suns, Cuntroaches, Urin, Piss, Brainbombs, Puma. Different bands that share the same attitude

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
We try to keep in shape and not get too fat. Two of us practice climbing and the other one is getting fat

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We’re getting old so it’s getting harder to be in the music scene, but the will to make some noise and make some ear bleed is still alive, even more then in the past. Chaos with some order!
1.For those hat have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

⁃ We are 4 guys who plays melodic doom/death metal with some black metal elements. It has always been a struggle to explain our style with all these different elements but internally and to friends we call our music Nature Metal, which describes our desired concept, nature and folklore. The band was formed in the late 2017 and we started to work on our debut album very early. Our new bassist and vocalist Jonathan joined the band in Mars 2018. Our first album which we released on the 1st of February this year is a concept album about scandinavian folklore. As previously mentioned It’s a theme through the whole album which we want to explore and internalize as our main ”atmosphere”.

2.So far you have released one full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

⁃ The plan wasn’t acctually to record a whole album and release it as an album. The idea from the beginning was just to record our tracks just for fun and to learn more how the recording process are and try to do it all by ourselves. Robert, our guitarrist, vocalist and main songwriter had some really good demo tracks and riffs which we put together. When the first track was recorded we sent it to our friend Rickard Törnqvist (Svartkonst) and after we heard his first mix we realised that he was the perfect guy for the job and that everything sounded so much better than we thought it would. From that moment everything became quite exciting for us. We didn’t really focus on any specific genre in the beginning, but we all agreed that it would be quite slow and melodic.

3.Your lyrics cover Scandinavian Folklore themes. can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

⁃ We wanted a concept and the first song that was completed was about 'Skogsrået' which is a female being, a watcher of the forest, in old folklore. It woke a strong interest in all of us, so we decided to use that theme. We have grown up very close to nature and have heard the stories then and then since childhood.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Ulfven'?

⁃ 'Ulv' is an old word for wolf and it can also mean werewolf. We thought it was a name that suited us very well considering what our songs are about. It also sounds ”dense” when you say it, it rolls of the tounge!

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

⁃ The cover of ’Folklore’ is a photo taken in the woods. Our song ’Nocturnal Watcher’ is about a mytholigical creature in swedish folklore called Kyrkogrimmen, which holds the shape you see in the back of the cover.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

⁃ We haven’t played any shows yet so it’s hard to answer that question. When the idea of recording an album emerged, we put all our focus on it. After the release of ’Folklore’, the idea was to play live as much as possible but we went through various things, both as a band and privately, that made us unable to do it. We have a lot of different ideas to further enhance the atmosphere in our performance when we play live. So stay tuned, we’re really hyped, rehearsed and ready for a live show!

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

⁃ Yes, we have. Nothing is nailed at the moment, but we will reveal more about that soon.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest/

⁃ We are looking for a label at the moment. We have received some offers but we have either not been interested or the other part has stopped replying/drawn themselves out of it. It has been infuriating to say the least!

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of melodic death and doom metal?

⁃ The reactions has been so much better than expected. If the people who like the album is fans of melodic death and doom metal it doesn’t matter as long as people like the music. That said there has been some minor bitter reactions from people who think metal and its genres is some static thing that has to be the same as its origins. Mostly these ”true” metalheads are doom and black metal fans, but we have not given it much thought. One funny comment we got on YouTube was from a true doom fan who said ”The music is great but THE VOCALS SUCK”. We thought it was quite funny.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

⁃ Time will tell. We have a lot of ideas that we want to make real, but it’s really hard to tell what the future will look like, but we will continue the journey with ’Ulfven’ as long as possible. We love doing this.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

- The big ones that have inspired us throughout former bands and this one would probably be Opeth, Bloodbath and Gojira. Others would be bands such as Katatonia and Ereb Altor. Music styles that inspire are mainly black and death metal of course but we listen to a lot of different things internally. Sometimes some of us blast Bloodbath through the speakers one moment only to put on some Modern Pop, RnB and old rock classics in the next. We think it is important to listen to more than just metal because you can easily get stuck in the same patterns, which can kill your creativity. We will not cover Hit Me Baby One More Time anytime soon but a melody or a groove here and there from completely different genres can definitely inspire a brutal metal track.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

⁃ We live very different lives and do very different things outside ’Ulfven’ but music is luckily the main interest. Other than that we enjoy nature, cooking food, hanging out or having a few drinks. Preferably all at once!

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

- We invite people to follow us on Instagram and Facebook! We post band updates, write some swedish poetry and currently we’re releasing some folklore-inspired artwork made by Sofia Hultqvist. All in our style.

We are currently working on something that we hopefully will reveal later this year, it will be ’Ulfven’ in its essence. A bittersweet, brutal and beautifully dark journey through the unknown. Thank you for having us!

Mourner are a band from Russia that plays a melodic mixture of doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Apogee of Nihility" which was released as a joint effort between Satanath, The End Of Time Records and More Hate Productions.

Clean playing starts off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. Stringed instruments can also be heard at times while the slower sections of the songs are very heavily rooted in doom metal along with the vocals being mostly death metal growls.

A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly. When screams are utilized they also add in a touch of black metal along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and as the album progresses clean playing also makes a brief return on a couple of tracks and all of the music sticks to a slower direction, the album also closes with an instrumental.

Mourner plays a style of doom/death metal that is very slow, melancholic, melodic and heavy sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.

In my opinion Mourner are a very great sounding melodic mixture of doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Scorched Sun" "Apogee Of Nihility" and "Cobweb Of Captivity". 8 out of 10.

Rottendawn are a band from Finland that plays a mixture of doom, death and heavy metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Occult" which will be released in September by Saturnal Records.

A very fast, dark and old school sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats. A decent amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing while the slower sections of the music are very heavily rooted in doom metal and all of the musical instruments also sound very powerful.

Vocals are mostly tortured death metal growls while most of the tracks are very long and epic in length. When synths are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling along with the music also having some influences from the 70's, 80's and 90's but still retaining a modern day heaviness.

When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in more of an old school metal style along with the vocals also adding more of a shouting approach at times and when screams a re utilized they add in a touch of black metal and as the album progresses fast playing and blast beats also make a brief return and clear vocals and clean playing are added onto the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, death and occultism themes.

In my opinion Rottendawn are a very great sounding mixture of doom, death and heavy metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Final Lament" "Dawn Dwellers" and "Occult". 8 out of 10.
Leather Lung are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays a mixture of sludge, stoner and doom metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Lonesome On'ry And Evil" which will be released in August by Magnetic Eye Records.

Distorted drones start off the album before going into more of a hard and heavy musical direction. Vocals are mostly sludge style screams while the riffs are more rooted in southern and stoner metal along with some back up shouting vocals also being used at times and the slow riffs also add in the heaviness of doom metal.

All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the solos and leads bring in more of a 70's rock/metal style. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with some psychedelic elements also being utilized at times and one track also adds in a brief use of spoken word samples as well as introducing blues rock influences onto the recording, clean vocals can also be heard briefly and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.

Leather Lung plays a musical style that takes stoner, sludge and doom metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover satanism, life, death and drug themes.

In my opinion Leather Lung are a very great sounding mixture of stoner, sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Barbed Wire" "Ain't Feeling No Pain" and "Skeleton Key". 8 out of 10.
Haram are a band from Italy that plays a mixture of drone, noise, grindcore, sludge and post metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Questo E Solo Chaos" which was released as a joint effort between Dio Drone, Tifone Crew, Drown Within, Mother Ship and Toten Schwan Records.

A very fast and brutal grindcore sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats. Vocals bring in more of an aggressive hardcore style as well as adding in some screams at times while elements of noise core can also be heard in the faster sections of the music.

All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the slower sections of the music are very heavily rooted in sludge emtal. Elements of harsh noise and drone can also be heard at times along with the guitar leads also showing an influence of post metal, clean vocals can also be heard at times as well as the music also adding in touches of noise rock and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.

Haram plays a musical style that takes drone, noise, grindcore, sludge and post metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover dark, hateful and oppressive themes.

In my opinion Haram are a very great sounding mixture of drone, noise, grindcore, sludge and post metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Terra" "Solo" and "Hopressione". 8 out of 10.

This is a review of a spit album between Portland Oregon's Hound The Wolves and Glasghote which will be self released in August and we will start off the review with Hound The Wolves a band that plays a mixture of drone, psychedelic and stoner metal.

Their side of the split starts out with some acoustic guitars along with a brief use of guitar slides and both of their tracks are very long and epic in length. All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the music also brings in a great amount of psychedelic elements.

Clean vocals can also be heard at times while the heavier and slower sections of the songs bring in elements of stoner, sludge and doom metal as well as adding some atmospheric sounding drones into certain sections of the recording and all of their music sticks to a very slow direction, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover occultism, numerology and sacred geometry themes.

In my opinion Hound The Wolves are a very great sounding mixture of drone, psychedelic and stoner metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Live through the Day, Run Through the Note".

Next up is Glasghote a band that plays a mixture of sludge and doom metal.

Their side of the split starts out with some slow yet heavy sludge style riffing while the vocals are angry yet high pitched sounding screams. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the music along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.

The riffs also add in a small amount of dark sounding melodies along with some growls also being added into the background briefly and both of the tracks stick to a slower musical direction as well as adding in some distorted amp noises at times. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover darkness and mythology themes.

In my opinion Glasghote are a very great sounding mixture of sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Eye of Ra".

In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of stoner, sludge and doom metal. 8 out of 10.
Warcrab are a band from the United Kingdom that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of sludge, doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Damned In Endless Night" which will be released in August by Transcending Obscurity Records.

Clean playing starts off the album before going into a heavier direction which also introduces melodic guitar leads onto the recording. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with the slower sections of the songs being very heavily rooted in sludge and doom metal.

Vocals are mostly sludge style screams while the music also brings in a great amount of death metal elements as well as utilizing growls at times. A couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with some of the music also showing some 70's rock/metal influences and as the album progresses a small amount of crust and d beat elements can be heard and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction, the album also closes with an instrumental.

On this recording Warcrab remains true to their mixture of sludge, doom and death metal. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover war, death, nihilism and apocalyptic themes.

In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Warcrab and if you are a fan of sludge, doom and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Halo Of Flies" "Abyssal Mausoleum" "Kraken Arise" and "Swords". 8 out of 10.
1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We are a 3 piece doom band hailing from Philadelphia, we lean towards the filthier death doom to sludge and noise side of things. Harsh vocals, baritone tuning, and ignorant riffs with elements of other nefarious genres.

2.In March you had released your first full length, musically how does it differ from your previous split's and ep?

Some of the material was written around the same time to be honest. But this album as a whole captures a more definitive representation of our goals musically.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

From personal stuff like the human condition, suicide and mental illness to more fanatical fiction based horror/sci-fi shit.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Moros'?

It’s the Greek being of impending doom....

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?

Ethan McCarthy (@thecoolghoul)(Primitive Man) designed the art work and layout for us. To me the art kinda reminds me of having a panic attack and thinking about all the fucked up shit I’ve ever seen or been through.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We’ve played with tons of sick bands over the years but the one time we opened for Danzig here in Philly sticks out as a mind fuck for sure. Usually our shows are at much smaller sweaty venues and on a good night we get nice and fucked up and we rip through our songs and encourage the crowd to abuse each other.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We will tour in the not so distant future but unfortunately it’s too early to say when. Keep an eye on our Instagram (@moros_doom) and Facebook for show announcements.

8.You have been a part of some splits with 'Lithotome' and 'Black Urn', what are your thoughts on the other bands that had participated on those recordings?

Both of those bands are great but unfortunately both projects are now done. The Black Urn boys have moved on to a new project called ‘Caged’ and ‘Lithotome’ mastermind Alex Poole has been running with many projects including Skaphé and Chaos Moon as well as his label Mystikaos who I highly suggest checking out!

9.The new album was released on 'Hidden Deity Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Hidden Deity is a pretty new label run our buddy Matt from around our area. His only other release so far is from a legendary Philly band ‘Rosetta’ - I’m not sure what they have in store for the future but working with Hidden Deity was drama free.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of sludge and doom metal?

Over seas fans have been very complimentary... we have a small but surprisingly growing amount of support from European fans. We definitely would love to tour there one day.

11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

I play drums in Krieg who hopefully will be starting the process of a new record in the winter and Nauseator who will be releasing a split on Hells Headbangers in the near future.

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

More filth, more dirges, more death

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Influences range from Grief, Dystopia, Noothgrush to Asphyx, Finnish Death Metal, classic black metal

Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of shit like Cerebral Rot, Cultes des Ghoules, Fetid, Ride for Revenge.... new Yellow Eyes rips also.

14.What are some of your non musical interests?

Pro-Wrestling, cooking, booze

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We have a few songs already done for a future release which is still in early planning stages, maybe a split maybe a sick tape, maybe both....more on that later! Thanks for the support! -Jay

Goatburner are a duo from Finland that plays a mixture of sludge, death metal and power violence and this is a review of their 2019 album "Extreme Conditions" which will be released in September by Time to Kill Records.

A very distorted yet heavy sound starts off the album along with some high pitched screams and slow yet heavy riffing which brings elements of sludge metal onto the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard as well with some influences of power violence and grindcore.

The songs also show an influence of 90's era Swedish and Finish death metal which also gives the music more of an old school feeling. Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the music sticks to a heavier direction.

Goatburner plays a musical style that takes sludge, death metal and power violence and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the negative and disturbing sides of the chaotic forces of nature we have to live in today.

In my opinion Goatburner are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, death metal and power violence and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Time To Burn" "Violent Redeemer" "Get Sick And Die" and "Wave Of Doom". 8 out of 10.

Leather Glove are a solo project from San Francisco, California that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of experimental, industrial noise, crust, grindcore, sludge, doom and death metal and this is a review of his 2019 album "Perpetual Animation" which was released by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.

A very fast and brutal grindcore sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them as well as the solos and leads being done in a very dark, old school and distorted style.

Elements of crust and d beat can also be heard in the mid tempo sections of the songs while industrial style noises are also added into some parts of the music. A lot of the slower riffing is also very heavily rooted in sludge and doom metal along with the music also getting very experimental sounding at times.

On this recording Leather Glove adds some some experimental and industrial noise elements to his mixture of crust, grindcore, sludge and doom emtal to take his style to another level. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover violence, pain, science fiction and surrealism themes.

In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from leather Glove and if you are a fan of crust, grindcore, sludge and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Cursed Role" "A Viceral Notion Of Death" and "Reflections Of Despair". 8 out of 10.
Dipygus are a band from Monterrey Bay, California that plays a mixture of doom. death metal, grindcore and punk and this is a review of their 2019 album "Deathooze" which was released on cassette and cd by Caligari Records.

Blast beats and grindcore elements start off the album along with the vocals being mostly deep and guttural death metal growls. Influences of punk are also used quite a bit throughout the recording along with the slower sections of the songs being very heavily rooted in doom metal.

All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while a couple of the tracks are long and epic in length. Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in the guitar riffing along with the music being very heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era and screams are also utilized at times.

When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain very true to an old school style as well as some spoken word and movie samples also being added into certain sections of the recording and all of the music also sticks to a heavier direction along with one song being an instrumental. The production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover cryptids and antiquity themes.

On this recording the Lumberjack Feedback remains true to the instrumental mixture of sludge and doom metal that has been established on previous releases and the production sounds very professional.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's sludge style along with the bass guitars also being utilized as a lead instrument at times. A great amount of amp reverb can also be heard in the bands musical style as well as the music always sticking to a very slow yet heavy musical style.

Nightfucker plays a musical style that takes sludge and doom metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover addiction, abuse, suicide, hallucinations, delusions, mental illness, self harm and complete human collapse with revolting lunacy.

In my opinion Nightfucker are a very great sounding mixture of sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Temptations Curse" and "Death Beset". 8 out of 10.
2 Wolves are a band from Finland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a melodic mixture of death, doom and gothic metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Our Fault" which was released by Inverse Records.

A very heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while the solos and leads also utilize a great amount of melody. Clean goth style vocals can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and keyboards are also added into the heavier sections of the music.

Elements of doom metal can be heard in the slower sections of the songs along with some clean playing also being added in some parts of the recording. When grim screams are utilized they add in a touch of black metal as well as the music also utilizing a decent amount of death metal growls.

Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as some of the tracks being long and epic in length and as the album progresses a couple of brief acoustic guitars along with one of them being an instrumental are also added onto the recording, one song also introduces stringed instruments into the music and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon a tragic love story set in a haunted house scenery

In my opinion this is another great sounding album from 2 Wolves and if you are a fan of melodic death, doom and gothic metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unwritten Names" "Dreaming Beneath" and "The Fault is Ours". 8 out of 10.

This is a review of a split album between Chile's Lapsus Dei and Netherland's Officium Triste called "broken Memories" which was released in 2018 by Australis Records and we will start off the review with Lapsus Dei a band that plays a melodic mixture of doom and death metal.

Their side of the split starts out with some heavy riffing while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. Synths are also mixed into the heavier sections of the music as well as some stringed instruments also being used at times and the vocals also add in a mixture of death metal growls and screams.

Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the music along with some clean playing also being added into some parts of the songs. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and all of the music sticks to a slower direction, clear vocals can also be heard on the closing track.

Lapsus Dei plays a style of doom/death metal that is very melodic and atmospheric sounding. The production on their side of the recording sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death and religion themes.

In my opinion Lapsus Dei are a very great sounding melodic doom/death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Feeling Remains".

Next up is Officium Trise who return with t heir melodic mixture of doom and death metal.

Their side of the split starts out with some drum beats along with some keyboards and melodic guitar leads a few seconds later. Clean vocals are also utilized quite a bit throughout their side of the recording along with the slower sections of the music being very heavily rooted in doom metal.

Death metal growls can also be heard in some parts of the music while a couple of their tracks are recorded live along with one songs being very long and epic in length and all of the music sticks to a slower musical direction as well as being very heavily tooted in the 90's atmospheric style, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly on the closing track.

On this recording Officium Triste take their style of doom/death metal into a different direction which is also very different from the stuff they released in the early 90's. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark thoughts, gloom and pessimism themes.

In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Officium Triste and if you are a fan of melodic and atmospheric doom/death metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "On The Crossroads Of Souls".

In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of melodic and atmospheric doom/death metal. 8 out of 10.

Ulfven are a band from Sweden that plays a melodic mixture of doom and death metal with some black metal influences and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "Folklore".

Nature sound along with a brief use of shamanistic humming start off the album before going into more of a heavier musical direction. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the music along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and the vocals are mostly death metal growls.

When screams are utilized they bring elements of black metal onto the recording while the acoustic guitars when they are brought into the music gives the songs more of a progressive feeling. along with the guitar solos and leads being done in a very melodic style as well as a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length,.

All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them as well as some tremolo picking and blast beats being added onto the recording when the music finally speeds up and as the album progresses a brief acoustic instrumental is also added onto the recording. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics are a concept album based upon Scandinavian Folklore.

In my opinion Ulfven are a very great sounding melodic mixture of doom and death metal with a touch of black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Mother's Betrayal" "Nocturnal Watcher" and "The Black Waters". 8 out of 10.
1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Sure! The band formed around 2014. We are a bunch of friends living in Warsaw. In the past we played in various bands and shared few gigs bills together but didn’t had the chance to play together
in one band. As our previous bands disbanded some time ago, the right opportunity has come to try
to make music together and time has shown that it was a great idea. We had a lot of fun making the
record.

2.Recently you have released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?
On our debut album “Where Are You Now…?” you can expect old school doom metal played in the vein of English pioneers of the kind such as Anathema or My Dying Bride. All of us are doom enthusiasts so it was an obvious choice of style of our music on that record.

3.The band has been around since 2014 but waited until 2018 to release an album, can you tell us a little bit more about the first 4 years?
We have struggled with lineup changes during the first years and took our time to write the record the best way we could. As we weren’t rushed by any deadlines and wanted to have the best lineup it took us some time to achieve that goal.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores on the album?
First of all, the lyrics is relevant and inevitable part of the album. Music and lyrical parts combined together make this work completed. Regarding the topics – if I would say that they treat about life, death, fear, joy etc… I would say nothing. It doesn’t mean that they are so generic and vague that it’s impossible to identify the point, as it frequently happens in so called “doom metal poetry”. They are quite simple, but you may be touched by them in your very personal way, as they refer directly to emotions. This is why I strongly encourage you to read them by yourself and have your own interpretation

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Painthing'?
We use the music as painters use the paint to create their vision out of emotions. As the result you get the piece of art, filled with colors, structures, shapes…The complete composition takes you into your personal journey through your sensibility, feelings and reflections. Our music is our painting and because there’s lot of pain and sadness within, this word play – pain(ful)thing / painting brought us to PAINTHING.

6.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?
The artwork was created by Michał “Xaay” Loranc. Michał is a great artist. And very experienced. Luckily, Darek and Michał have been friends since secondary school and it came naturally that we have chosen Michał to take care of cover and layout. The conception of cover was ours and Michał and Darek have been working on it to achieve the final result.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We have played 6 shows so far mainly in Warsaw and it’s region. Our first show had a lot of energy and unknown vibe. It was quite a unique performance for us. To play those songs live for the first time and see the feedback of the audience. We played also a gig in Minsk Mazowiecki near Warsaw in a small venue which was really cool, the crowd responded really well that evening. As for our stage performance we are playing at our best, have fun and give the energy to the crowd to make the evening as unique as possible.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for 2019?
We are scheduling few dates but nothing is confirmed yet. Definitely we will hit the stage.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of atmospheric doom and death metal?
The reaction so far has been really great. We are receiving a lot of positive messages and the press is good. So far the record is received really well which makes us more happy.

10.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
Currently only our bass player is involved in the band Thesis which plays more rock/post rock oriented music.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We will still play doom, it’s in our veins. We are trying few ideas now and it sounds really doomish. No doubts on that. We will play more gigs for sure and try to bring Painthing on stages outside Warsaw.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and
also what are you listening to nowadays?
Tough question. We are listening to a lot of different music so in some way, voluntarily or not, our music must be influenced by what we are listening to. We really enjoy music so we are listening to all kinds of good music, from grindcore to progressive rock, pop or classical. It would be difficult to pick just few names.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
Every day brings something interesting and inspiring. It makes the life a constant adventure. There are too many things to name them all.

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the musical project since the recording and release of the new album?

Miscarriage: We are in the process of releasing our new album, “Imminent Horror”, through Sentient Ruin on physical media. Along with that we are beginning the writing for our next album which we believe will be quite the experience once completed. Hopefully we will be able to have it finished and released this year.

2.At the end of 2018 you had released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Miscarriage: We would say the most noticeable difference is that it is much slower than what we have previously created. We wanted to embark on something much more atmospheric and monstrous.

3.On the new album you went for more of a sludge/doom metal direction while previous releases where more grindcore orientated, what was the decision behind going into this musical direction?

Miscarriag: Ultimately the decision came to mind that we wanted to have music that resembled a nightmarish embodiment, a creature devouring civilizations if you will. As it started to take shape, we believe it became much more than that.

4.Since 2017 there has been 5 different releases, do you spend a great amount of time writing and creating music?

Miscarriage: We are very focused on writing and creating new music for Miscarriage. We aim to release one new album every year if not more. Currently we easily have over five albums we plan to pursue over the next several years.

5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

Jon - Lyrically in the beginning Miscarriage was quite personal. More or less I bled the words onto a page in many ways. I think the lyrics have started to become much more conceptual and much more about what perpetuates through our sound. Our future works will become much more about the imagery, feelings, and thoughts that come to mind from the music.

6.One member lives in the United States while another lives in Sweden, how does this work out in the recording process?

Miscarriage: We discuss very heavily and thoroughly what we are wanting to accomplish prior to the writing process. From there Ulf will write and record drums to have sent over to Jon to record guitars, bass, and vocals to. Sometimes lyrics are already ready to be implemented and sometimes lyrics come together after the music is completed.

7.Would the band be open to doing any live shows if the opportunity came?

Miscarriage: We wouldn’t mind to play shows together if the opportunity ever presented itself, but it is unlikely due to the far distance in which we live apart. Creating music is what is most important to us so even then we would rather focus on creating as much as we can.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Miscarriage: We are not necessarily looking to be signed, but if an offer were to be made that was right for us we may take that route in the future.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of grindcore, sludge and doom metal?

Miscarriage: Overall we would say the reaction has been quite positive and even more so with our upcoming album. It’s actually been somewhat surprising to see how much support we have received to be honest.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Miscarriage: We plan to venture into all kinds of different territories for future releases. Nothing is off limits when it comes to what we will create.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Jon - Last Days of Humanity, Circle of Dead Children, Hexis, Primitive Man, Vermin Womb, Daughters, See You Next Tuesday, and probably more... kind of an endless amount of sources of inspiration and influences really. I listen to anything from synthwave to ambient instrumental music to the most vile music obtainable recently.

Ulf – In regards to what bands that have had an influence in our sound, Jon has more or less covered it. Its pretty rare that I check out newer bands that much these days in all honesty. These days I listen to music that I listened to growing up and that I listened to during my mid mid 20s – early 30s. But if I would have to mention what I’ve been listen to recently would be Jesus Piece, Full of hell, Vein, Reverorum Ib Malacht, Demonomancy, Texas Murder Crew etc.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Jon - I am very involved with extreme and horror movies. I can’t seem to get enough of them.

Ulf – More or less anything related to horror be it in terms of movies, books, art etc. Apart from that: history, psychology, mythology, nature (exploring and hiking), painting, writing etc.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Jon - Thank you for this opportunity and for those reading we hope you dig what you hear!

Ulf – Thanks for the support.
