When Icarus falls are a band from Switzerland that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style that mixes post metal, hardcore, doom and sludge together and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Circles".
The album starts out with a melodic, clean and atmospheric sound and after a couple of minutes aggressive growls and screams make their way into the music and the album goes into a heavier direction as well as bringing in distorted guitar leads which also leads to the band mixture clean and heavy parts together and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
As the album goes into other songs the band stick mostly to a post metal sound while the heavier parts have elements of hardcore, doom metal and sludge as well as having a great amount of melody and atmosphere in their music and they also bring in a brief use of spoken word parts.
With this album When Icarus Falls continues the sound of the previous recordings while also utilizing a bit more melody and atmosphere this time around as well as going into a more melodic direction.
Song lyrics cover dark and metaphysical themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from When Icarus Falls and if you are a fan of post metal or sludge, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Great North" and "Celestial Bodies". 8 out of 10.
