Dwell are a band from California that plays a mixture of doom, sludge and post metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Far Dark Helm".
A very dark and distorted sound starts off the album and a few seconds alter drums are added into the music which leads up to some deep death metal growls along with a small amount of spoken word parts and the music also starts to speed up with some blast beats and melodic post metal style guitar solos and leads.
There is a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts throughout the album along with a great amount of sludge and doom metal being added into the guitar riffing along with a mixture of both clean and heavy parts and all of the songs are long and epic in length along with a concept that is divided into 3 different tracks.
All of the musical instruments on the album have a very powerful sound to them and they also add in elements of brutal death metal into certain sections of the recording along with some clean sections they bring a very progressive feeling to the bands musical sound and all of the songs sound very different from each other.
Dwell create a post metal style that is a bit more raw and heavier than most bands of this genre with the doom, death and sludge influences being a huge part of the bands musical style, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Dwell are a very great sounding mixture of doom, sludge and post metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "To Scry On Lamentations" and "Far Dark Helm III". 8 out of 10.
