Boar are a band from Finland that plays a mixture of stoner and doom metal with elements of classic rock and harsh noise and this is a review of their 2015 album "Veneficae" which was released by Lost Pilgrims Records.
Psychedelic and harsh noises start off the album before the music starts going for a very dark and heavy style of doom metal while also mixing in the other elements along with some aggressive sludge style screams and the music also incorporates a great amount of stoner rock style melodies in the solos and leads as well as the riffing.
A great amount of distortion and reverb can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording and when clean singing is utilized it gives the songs more of an atmospheric feeling and a good portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and as the album progresses more elements of 70's rock and proto metal are added into the bands musical style and some of the latter tracks also add in small amounts of clean playing and elements of krautrock.
Boar plays a style of doom metal mixed with stoner rock which they also mix in with the heaviness of sludge and death metal along with elements of krautrock, harsh noise, psychedelic and classic rock which all make the music sound very original, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, metaphysical and occult themes.
In my opinion Boar are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, doom metal, stoner rock, psychedelic and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Witch Woman" and "Wolf Lord". 8 out of 10.
