Grim Ravine Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We're a 5 piece sludge/doom band from Portsmouth UK.

2.So far you have released an ep and a full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings and also how do they differ from each other?

Musically, on both releases the sound incorporates doom worship, fuzz and misery to create sounds from the abyss. I would also describe the sounds as bleak, sometimes dissonant and pummeling. Our latest offering just has more!

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Misery, fantasy worlds and planets.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Grim Ravine'?

If you think of a "Grim Ravine" you could probably imagine it is a dark, deep, eerie Cavern in the middle of some desolate forest. I think this reflects our music and persona very well.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We want our live shows to be like our music, can't give to much away but the audience will have a bleak but theatrical experience.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?

Think 2017 is going to be as play as many shows as possible all over the UK to get our heavy music out there.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of sludge and doom metal?

We think It has been well received by the fans across the genres worldwide. it isn't run of the mill doom/sludge but we like it!

8.What is going on with 'Subservience' these days, a band that shares a couple of the same members?

Yeah, Martin, Scott  are recording a debut Album for Subservience, they recruited Lewis as well to play bass on the album. It's being mixed and mastered as we speak by Paul "Win" Winstanley (Paul Win Audio) who produced all of our stuff. So that'll be out hopefully April/May time.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We don't purposely go about having a black metal-esque sound but hearing back over our material there is plenty of the genres characteristics in there. I guess we'll keep on making noise.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Well doom and sludge obviously. Also death and Black metal as well. We listen to all kinds of music and draw influence from everywhere

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

We don't have any

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Stay miserable
