Gravewards are a band from Greece that plays a mixture of old school death, doom, and technical thrash metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "Subconscious Lobotomy" which was released by Necronome Productions.
Heavy riffs and melodic guitar leads start off the ep along with some death metal growls a few seconds later that are more close to the mid 80's era of the genre and the riffs also use a great amount of melody along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful and elements of thrash are added into the riffing.
You can hear a decent amount of doom metal elements in the slower sections of the songs while screams are also used at times and both the riffs and leads also get very complex and technical at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard and the tracks also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Gravewards plays a musical style that takes mid 80's and early 90's era death metal and mixes it with technical thrash and a touch of doom/death metal to create a sound that is very true to the classic era of extreme metal, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover horror and gore themes.
In my opinion Gravewards are a very great sounding old school mixture of death, doom, and technical thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Casket Entrapment" and "Deathwomb Incubation". 8 out of 10.
