Officium Triste are a band from the Netherlands that plays a mixture of doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2004 album "Reason" which will be re-issued in June by Vic Records.
A very dark, melodic and heavy doom metal sound starts off the album along with some death metal growls and you can also hear a small amount of keyboards at times and the solos and leads also utilize a great amount of depressive melodies and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
At times the keyboards have a more powerful sounding presence giving the music more of an atmospheric feeling as well as bringing in a small amount of violins at times and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of spoken word parts and all of the songs also stick to a very slow musical direction from beginning to end of the recording.
Officium Triste played a style of doom/death metal on this recording that was very slow, dark and heavy as well as utilizing more keyboards than previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark thoughts, gloom and pessimism themes.
In my opinion Officium Triste are a very great sounding doom/death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Silent Witness" "Sun Doesen't Shine Anymore". 8 out of 10.
