Romasa are a band from New Orleans, Louisiana that plays a mixture of crust and sludge metal with some elements of hardcore, death and post metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 album "Cheering Death".
Distorted amp noises start off the album before into into more of a heavier and melodic sludge metal direction. Vocals bring in a mixture of deep death metal growls and screams while the mid tempo sections brings elements of crust, hardcore and d beat onto the recording as well as the faster sections also adding in a small amount of blast beats.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the slower sections of the music show some doom metal influences. A couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid aped and fast parts.
Romasa plays a musical style that takes sludge, doom, post metal, hardcore and crust and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional for being a s elf released recording while the lyrics cover nihilism, apathy and suffering themes.
In my opinion Romasa are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, doom, post metal, hardcore and crust and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cheering Death" and "Mind Brick". 8 out of 10.
