Primitive Weapons/The Shadow Gallery/Prosthetic Records/2012 CD Review

Primitive  Weapons  are  a  band  from  Brooklyn,  New  York  that  plays  a  very  very  form  of  sludge  mixed  with  post  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "The  Shadow  Gallery"  which  was  released  by  Prosthetic  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffing  with  not  much  in  the  way  of  fast  playing  or  blast  beats,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  tone  with  some  doom/sludge  riffing  thaat  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffing  that  combines  influences  from  sludge,  doom metal  and  post  hardcore  mixed  in  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  and  heavy/noisy  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  and  there  are  little  to no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording.

Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  sludge  style  screams,  deep  growls,  hardcore  style  yelling/screaming  and  clean  singing  vocals,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressing  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  heavy,  dark,  professional  and  powerful  sound  and  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  Primitive  Weapons  are  a  very  great  sounding  sludge/doom/post  hardcore  hybrid  and  if  you  are  a  fan of  this  style,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Good  Hunting"  "The  Death  Of  Boredom"  and  "Broke".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
