Cold Blue Mountain are a band from California that plays a mixture of sludge, doom metal, psych, post rock and grunge and this is a review of their 2014 album "Old Blood" which will be released in October by Halo Of Flies.
Clean playing starts off the album giving the music a post rock feeling along with some drones and pianos and after a few minutes the music gets more heavy and melodic along with some high pitched screams which also brings in the heaviness of doom metal and you can also hear a good mixture of both clean and heavy parts throughout the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
When solos and leads are added into the music they enhance the melodic nature of the recording and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length, as the album progresses you can hear some growls in certain sections of the recording and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the band also makes every song sound different from each other while still bringing in a decent amount of heaviness as well as keeping everything in a slower musical direction.
Cold Blue Mountain takes the heaviness of sludge and doom metal and mixes it in with the melody of grunge, post rock and psych to create a very original sounding recording, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Native Americans and a group of people that robbed their homeland.
In my opinion Cold Blue Mountain are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, doom metal, grunge, post rock and psych and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Seed of Descent" and "Retreat". 8 out of 10.
