Sempiternal Dusk are a band from Portland, Oregon that plays a mixture of doom and death metal and this is a review of their self titled 2014 album which will be released on September 30th by Dark Descent Records.
A very dark and haunting sound starts off the album along with some bass guitars and spoken word parts which also make a return later on during the recording on one of the tracks before going into a very heavy doom metal direction which also sees the band adding some evil melodies into their musical sound and after awhile more elements of death metal are brought onto the recording.
Once death metal growls are added into the music the album starts going for more of an early 90's doom/death metal sound and at times the music also speeds up a bit along with a small amount of blast beats while the slower sections bring in whispers at times which also adds more of an evil atmosphere to the bands musical style.
All of the songs are very long and epic in length and all of the tracks avoid using any solos and leads and focuses more an a very heavy and dark doom/death metal sound instead and after awhile high pitched screams can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the faster parts start getting more brutal as the album progresses.
Sempiternal Dusk creates a style of doom/death metal that is very dark and evil sounding as well as going back to the early 90's origins of the genre, the production sound s very dark, heavy and old school yet professional at the same time while the lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Sempiternal Dusk are a very great sounding mixture of doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Moon Beneath Hook Cross" and "Seclusion Of the Bereaved". 8 out of 10.
