SOL are a solo project from Denmark that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of experimental., doom and sludge metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Before We Disappear" which was released by Van Records.
Ambient style synths start off the album along with some atmospheric sounding drones a few seconds later before adding in some sludge style riffing while angry shouting style vocals can also be heard at times along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style.
Stringed instruments van also be heard at times while some of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the slower riffs also adding in the heaviness of doom metal as well as the music also getting very experimental at times, vocals also add aggressive screams into some parts of the songs and as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts and operatic female vocals can also be heard and one track also adds in a small amount of male clear singing, when acoustic guitars are used briefly they add in elements of neo-folk.
On this recording Sol takes his mus into more of an experimental direction while still adding in the heaviness of sludge and doom metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover human decay themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from SOL and if you are a fan of experimental, sludge and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wave" and "Eastern Sky". 8 out of 10.
