Ghoulgotha are a band from California that plays a mixture of death and doom metal and this is a review of their album "The Deathmass Cloak" which will be released in 2015 by Dark Descent Records.
A very dark sounding keyboard and distorted sounds start off the album and after the intro the music goes into a very dark and melodic doom/death metal direction along with some growls and guitar leads that add in depressive sounding melodies and you can hear a lot of early 90's death and doom metal influences in the bands musical style.
High pitched screams can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the songs also bring in a good mixture of slow and mid paced parts while they also bring in fast sections and blast beats in some of the tracks and as the album progresses the band starts adding in small amounts of clean playing into some of the tracks while the main focus remains on a very heavy and dark doom/death metal sound and the last track is 11 minutes in length and also adds in atmospheric and experimental elements.
Ghoulgotha plays a very dark style of doom/death metal that is heavily rooted in the 90's tradition while also having more of an updated take on the genre with their music, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness and occultism themes.
In my opinion Ghoulgotha are a very great sounding mixture of doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gazing Into Melted Night" "Saturnal Rites" "Citadel Of Heathen Flesh" and "Levitate Within The Curse". 8 out of 10.
