Amarok are a band from Chico, California that plays a mixture of sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Devoured" which will be released on June 22nd by Translation Loss Records.
Atmospheric soundscapes and acoustic guitars start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction which also introduces growls and screams onto the recording while also capturing the heaviness of sludge and doom metal along with all of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
A decent amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments on thee recording have a very powerful sound to them along with the music also mixing in a great amount of guitar amp noises as well as clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style and all of the music sticks to a very slow direction.
Amarak plays a musical style that takes sludge and atmospheric doom/death metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark and sorrowful themes.
In my opinion Amarak are a very great sounding mixture of sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sorceress" and "Skeleton". 8/5 out of 10.
