Khemmis are a band from Denver, Colorado that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of stoner, sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Desolation" which will be released on June 22nd by 20 Buck Spin.
Heavy riffs and melodic guitar leads start off the album which also adds in elements of classical metal onto the recording while the riffs bring in a great amount of stoner metal style melodies along with some clean vocals also being used at times which are done in a traditional doom metal style.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the riffs also bring in the heaviness of sludge along with some grim screams and death metal growls being added into certain sections of the recording and at times the music also adds in mid tempo parts as well as the music bringing in a great amount of 70's and 80's influences but mixing them with a more modern atmosphere and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars and stringed instruments can also be heard.
Khemmis creates another recording that remains to their mixture of stoner, sludge and doom metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover loss, death, grief and remorse themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Khemmis and if you are a fan of stoner, sludge and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Isolation" and "From Ruin". 8 out of 10.
