Graven Maul are a band from Fresno, California that plays a mixture of doom, death metal and hardcore and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Crushed Skull Moon" which will be released in July by Redefining Darkness Records.
Distorted amp noises start off the ep before going into more of a heavier musical direction while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats along with the vocals being mostly death metal growls and the music is also very heavily rooted in the early 90's era.
A great amount of doom metal elements can also be heard in the slower sections of the music while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some screams also being utilized at times as well as the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them, music also brings in a great amount of hardcore punk influences and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Graven Maul plays a musical style style that takes death, doom metal and hardcore and mixes them together to create a sound of t heir own, the production sounds very old school while the lyrics cover darkness, occultism and violence themes.
In my opinion Graven Maul are a very great sounding mixture of doom, death metal and hardcore and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Violence Is The Highest Law" and "Warcry Of The Feral Coven". 8 out of 10.
