Hate & Merda are a band from Italy that plays an experimental mixture of noise, alternative hardcore and sludge metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "L'Anno Dell 'Odio" which was released by Toten Schwan Records.
A very dark sounding drone starts off the album before going into a more dark and heavy sludge metal direction which also brings in melodic guitar leads at times as well as bringing in a great amount of distortion and reverb and you can hear a great amount of post hardcore elements in the bands musical style.
When vocals are added into the music they are very high pitched sludge screams and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and on some of the songs the band also brings in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a small amount of blast beats and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while couple of the tracks also bring in a small amount of clean playing and spoken word parts and on the last track melodic chants are added into the music.
Hate & Merda take a very heavy style of sludge and mix it in with the melody of post hardcore, the reverb and drones of noise and experimental music along with a touch of alternative to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Latin and cover dark and angry themes.
In my opinion hate & Merda are a very great sounding mixture of experimental, noise, alternative, hardcore and sludge metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ascoltare Con Dolore - Carne Gotica" and "L' Eternita' Di Unestate Terrible". 8 out of 10.
